Girls 1st, Boys 2nd at Ainsworth 9-10 Meet

 

The Ord 9-10 grade track teams continued the successful season for the track teams by winning the girls meet and finishing second in the boys meet at the Ainsworth meet on Monday, April 16.  The girls scored 140 points to win the meet ahead of runner-up Ainsworth (118).  "Our girls really competed well in this meet and put up some very impressive marks", Coach Derry Trampe commented.  "We have some very good young athletes on this team and this makes the future of Ord track look very good."  The boys finished second with 109 points while Ainsworth won the meet with 137 points.  "Ainsworth had a little more depth than we did and it showed up in the final team scores", Trampe said.  "With only four freshmen boys out for track it makes it difficult to score points for 4th through 6th place finishes."  Rounding out the team scores in the girls meet was:  Valentine (88), Twin Loup (78), Sandhills-Thedford (23), West Holt (20), and Stuart (17).  Rounding out the team scores in the boys meet was:  Stuart (79), West Holt (66), Valentine (55), Twin Loup (44), Sandhills-Thedford (23).

The girls brought home eight gold medals from the meet with Tori Beran and Katharina Most both earning three gold medals.  Beran won the 100-meter high hurdles in a time of 17.7, the 300-meter low hurdles in 51.0, and was on the winning 4 X 400 relay team with Most, Kenzie Drudik, and Melanie Ries.  The relay posted a time of 4:27.8.  Most won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:33.4 and was also a member of the 4 X 800 relay team with Lansman, Hanna Heil, and Star Vera.  The 3200-meter relay posted a time of 10:54.1.  Kenzie Drudik added a gold medal in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.9 while Melanie Ries finished first in the pole vault (6' 6") to win another gold medal.  Megan Davis won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.7 to bring home the 8th gold medal.  The Chants had another gold medal won but lost it when the 4 X 100 relay team of Megan Davis, Tori Beran, Melanie Ries, and Kenzie Drudik were disqualified for an exchange zone infraction.  The foursome posted a very fast time of 52.7.  Second place medals went to Kenzie Drudik in the triple jump (32' 5.25"), Katherine Lansman in the 1600-meter run (6:08.6) and 800-meter run (2:42.7), and Megan Davis in the 200-meter dash (28.8).  Third place medals went to Andi Shellhase in the shot put (29' 3.75"), Megan Davis in the long jump (13' 9.5"), and Melanie Ries in the high jump (4' 4").  Andi Shellhase finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 74' 7".  Fifth place finishes went to Morgan Stump in the discus (74' 3") and Star Vera in the 1600-meter run (6:54.2).  Sixth place points were scored by Morgan Stump in the shot put (26' 5.5") and Hanna Heil in the 800-meter run (2:55.3).

The boys won 6 of the 17 events with Trevor Fahrenholz and Kamron Dawe each bringing home 3 gold medals.  Fahrenholz won both the 400-meter dash (55.6) and the 800-meter run (2:19.5).  Dawe won the pole vault (11' 6") and the 300-meter IH (44.9).  The pair teamed up with Alex Fahey and John Radil to win the 4 X 400 relay in a time of 3:56.5.  Nick Valla won the remaining gold medal with a first place finish in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.9.  Valla also added three silver medals to his collection by finishing second in the long jump (18' 10.5"), triple jump (36' 4.25"), and the 100-meter dash (12.1).   Third place medals went to Kamron Dawe in the high jump (5' 2"), Alex Fahey in the 1600-meter run (5:32.4), and the 4 X 800 relay team of Fahey, Clinton O'Neel, Devon Vancura, and Fahreholz (9:57.9).  O'Neel added a fourth place finish in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:33.1.  Devon Vancura finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 94' 9" and John Radil finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.9.

Other Ord results include:  Girls:  100—Andi Shellhase (14.9); 200—Star Vera (34.1); 400—Hanna Heil (72.8), Star Vera (76.8), Kaleigh Koch (80.6); 1600—Kaleigh Koch (7:25.5); Shot Put—Kaleigh Koch (20' 9"); Discus—Kaleigh Koch (53' 5").  Boys: 400—John Radil (58.1); 1600—Clinton O'Neel (6:17.5); 4 X 100 relay—Gage Smedra, Clint Kruml, Clinton O'Neel, Devon Vancura (DQ); Shot Put—Gage Smedra (32' 5.75"), Devon Vancura (30' 6.25'); Clint Kruml (24' 3.5"); Discus—Gage Smedra (87' 4"), Clint Kruml (61' 5"); High Jump—John Radil (MOH 4' 10").
