Chants Top Burwell

Thursday night the Ord boys hosted the Burwell Longhorns. Like the previous season the Chant boys were also facing sickness with players including Riley Warner and Jacob Brown out of the game. The game started off well for the Chants but Burwell was able to hit a putback late in the 1st quarter to tie the game at 11. The Chants would have a big run to start the 2nd quarter and push the lead to six before Burwell railed to cut the lead to three at half. Giving the Chants a 24-21 lead at the break. The Chants would start the half with another run giving the Chants a six point lead after 3 quarters. Burwell would not go away and gradually cut the Chant lead. The Longhorns would grab their first lead since the 1st quarter in the final minute of the game and stretch the lead to two with 16 seconds to go. On the next possession  Zach Smith would knock down a 3 pointer from the wing to give the Chants a one point lead with 8 seconds left. Austin Trejo would grab a rebound with 1 second left to seal a 51-50 win for the Chants. The Chants were led by Gage Smith with 16 points. Quinton Ries and Zach Smith each had ten points in win. Ries added seven rebounds in the win. After the game Coach Gates said “This was our best overall game of the season.” Gates added We had some guys really step up on both ends of the floor and that gives us more to build on going forward the rest of the way.”
