CENTRAL CITY- The Ord Chanticleer football team traveled to Central City last Friday looking to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Chants came out of the gate slow, committing too many penalties. After cleaning up the penalties and settling into the game it was all Chanticleers from that point on. The Chants scoring run started with a 37 yard field goal from Kelen Meyer. The Chant defense held them on downs on the ensuing possession. Tommy Stevens scored on a 2 yard run to end the first quarter to make it 10-0. This was the first of three scores for Tommy on the night. Stevens got his second score on a bruising 11-yard run in the second quarter and got his third on a 21 yard scamper later in the middle of the second. After an interception by Kelen Meyer, Zach Smith scored on a 5-yard run to end the second quarter as Ord went into the locker room at half up 31-0. In the third quarter Kelen Meyer added a 24 yard field goal to put the Chants up 34-0. In the 4th quarter, Kelen Meyer made a 58 yard field goal to tie the Class C2 record to make it 37-6. Kelen became an instant twitter sensation over the weekend. Central City added a couple of late scores at the end to make the final score be 37-20. The Chanticleer big men dominated in the run game throughout the contest. Tommy Stevens had another great night on the ground, rushing for 166 yards with 3 touchdowns. The defensive side did their part as well eliminating any attempts by Central City to run the ball and providing outstanding coverage limiting their big play passing offense. The defense also did a great job tackling in the open field. The Chants will head to Norfolk this Friday to take on Norfolk Catholic.
