Boys 7th at Ainsworth Cross Country Meet

The Ord High School cross country teams continued their season at the Ainsworth cross country meet this past week.  Once again the girls did not have enough runners to score as a team and Ainsworth won their home meet with 7 points.  North Central was runner-up with 18 points.  Rounding out the team scoring were West Holt (35), Burwell (43), Valentine (53), Boyd County (58), Cody-Kilgore (65), and Ord, Mullen, and Sandhills-Thedford did not field enough runners to score as a team.  In the boys race the Chanticleers finished 7th out of the 8 scoring teams with 64 points.  “I was hoping we would fare a little better in this meet than we did”, Coach Derry Trampe said.  “We ran together pretty well but we need to close the gap between our top runner and our next three runners.”  West Holt won the team title with 18 points while Ainsworth finished second with 19 points.  Rounding out the team scoring were Mullen (23), Valentine (41), Boyd County (49), North Central (55), Burwell (69), and Stuart, Twin Loup, and Sandhills/Thedford did not have enough runners to score as a team.  

Kloe Severance led the way for the girls as she finished in 7th place in a time of 22:27 over the 5,000-meter course.  Macy Warner also earned a medal for the girls as she placed 13th in a time of 23:12.  “Both Kloe and Macy ran well in this race”, Trampe said.  “Macy ran almost a minute faster than she did last year and Kloe’s time was really comparable to her time from last year. I was pretty pleased with their efforts.”  Bronson Blair brought home the lone medal for the boys again this week as he finished 14th in a time of 20:34.  This was his fastest time on this course in his career.  “Bronson has been racing really well this season”, Trampe stated.  “I have been really pleased with the improvement he has shown so far.”  Hayden Kluthe finished 26th in a time of 21:41 and Braden Bruha was 29th in 22:00 to round out the scoring members of the team.  “Hayden had a much better race this week and looked pretty strong throughout the race.  Braden has been a pleasant surprise so far this season and looks like he will be a really good runner for us”, Trampe said.  Gage Sintek finishe 35th in 22:52, Crew Nelson was 46th in 26:26, and Caiden Hill was 49th in 27:49 to round out all finishers for the team.  “We need to work on becoming consistent in our competitions and in our practices and I think we will have a pretty good team by the end of the year”, Trampe said.

The junior high girls finished 5th out of 8 scoring teams in the meet with 57 points.  West Holt won the meet with 15 points while Ainsworth was second with 26 points.  Izzy Jeffres won a medal in the meet by finishing 9th in 7:07 over the 1-mile course.  Azia Giron was 19th in 7:39 and Elisabeth Bengston was 37th in 10:34.  The junior high boys just missed winning the team title and finished second with 15 points.  Valentine won the junior high meet with 13 points.  Elijah Pollard, Garret Severance, and Gage Kolar all won medals in the meet as they finished in 5th, 6th, and 7th place respectively.  Their times over the 1-mile course were 6:12, 6:15, and 6:16.  Grady Moudry was 12th in 6:26, Brody Blair was 13th in 6:28, Maddox Bennett was 14th in 6:30, and Brodie Klimek was 17th in 6:44 to round out the top 20 finishers for the team.  Also competing in the race were Jericho Smith (28th in 7:49), Skylar Probst (36th in 8:53), and Jeter Sanders (40th in 10:14).
