Chants Medal Three at Broken Bow Cross Country Meet

The Ord High School cross country teams competed in the annual Broken Bow Invitational this past Saturday and brought home three medals from the meet.  Kloe Severance and Delaney Cargill both finished in the top 20 of the girls’ high school race to earn medals and Izzy Jeffres finished in the top 10 of the middle school race to earn a medal.  The Chanticleer girls had all three runners finish in the top 25 but did not figure in the team scoring because they did not have enough finishers to score as a team.  McCook won the meet with 41 points with Minden and Ainsworth finish second and third respectively with 48 points.   Rounding out the scoring in the girls’ race were: Cozad (84), North Platte St. Pat’s (85), Broken Bow (101), Hi-Line (122), South Loup (127), Doniphan-Trumbull (149), Arcadia-Loup City (152), Valentine (187), St. Paul (194), and Ord, Gothenburg, Sandhills/Thedford, and Sandhills Valley did not score in the team race.  “I was very pleased with the way our girls competed in a very competitive meet”, Coach Derry Trampe commented.  “We ran really well and I hope we can get Hannah healthy before the year is over so we can start to figure in the team scores.  Our girls work really hard in practice and it is paying off for them.”

In the boys’ race the Chants finished 12th out of the 13 scoring teams in the meet.  The boys scored 229 points on the day.  “When I saw where we placed as a team I was a little disappointed in how we did”, Trampe said.  “Then I looked at and compared our times to how we ran on this course last year and all of our guys ran faster than they ever have on this course.  I am pleased that we gave it our best shot and now we just need to keep working to stay together with our top runners and we will be able to bring our scores down.”  Gothenburg won the meet with 43 points while St. Paul was right behind them with 45 points and Broken Bow was a close third with 47 points.  Rounding out the team scoring were: Minden (66), North Platte St. Pat’s (95), Ainsworth (96), Sandhills Valley (115), McCook (116), Doniphan-Trumbull (162), Arcadia-Loup City (174), Cozad (211), Ord (229), Valentine (247), and South Loup, Hi-Line, Brady, Maxwell, Sandhills/Thedford, and Medicine Valley did not field enough runners to score as a team.

Kloe Severance was the top finisher for the girls as she finished in 11th place in a time of 21:20 to earn a medal.  Delaney Cargill finished in 15th place in a time of 21:58 to also bring home a medal from the meet.  Macy Warner just missed out on the medals with a 23rd place finish in a time of 22:48.  The top 20 in each high school race earn medals.  “I was very happy with the way our girls ran today”, Trampe said.  “It was nice to have Delaney back and running in races and I was really impressed with the way she competed.  Kloe ran another good race again and is getting stronger every week.  She is getting back to her old form and I look for a lot of good things from her in the next few weeks.  Macy continues to impress me with how tough she is running this fall.  She really came close to earning a medal at a very tough meet.”

Bronson Blair was the top finisher for the boys this week as he finished in 53rd place in a time of 19:53.  This was the first time in his career that Bronson has run under the 20 minute mark for a race.  “I am really happy with the way Bronson is competing and leading the team this year”, Trampe stated.  “He has improved a lot during his four years on the high school team.  I am happy that he is having a successful season.”  Also scoring for the Chants were Treaven Scheideler (55th in 19:56), Hayden Kluthe (74th in 20:56), and Gage Sintek (86th in 21:36).  “Treaven had his best race of his career as well in this meet”, Coach Trampe noted.  “He has been running really well this season and it was great to see him under the 20 minute barrier as well.  Hayden had his best race of the season as well.  He just keeps running better every week and I look for him to have a break out race here in the very near future.  I was glad to see Gage close the gap between him and Hayden this week.  He is getting stronger as the season progresses and I look for him to continue to improve all year.”  Pushers for the team were Braden Bruha (87th in 21:37) and Crew Nelson (110th in 23:24).  “As freshmen both Braden and Crew are having good seasons”, Trampe said. “It is tough to make that jump from junior high races to the 3 mile races for high school but they are adjusting nicely and I look for a lot of good things from them in the future.”  Also competing in the meet were Caiden Hill (126th in 25:30) and Samson Campise (134th in 28:59).  “I am glad that both Caiden and Samson decided to compete in cross country this fall”, Trampe stated.  “It is good to have them out and they continue to show improvement every day in practice and in each meet.  That is all you can really as for as a coach and I am proud of what our kids are doing.”

The junior high girls had 3 runners and could not score in the meet but Izzy Jeffres was able to pick up a medal by finishing 9th in a time of 7:10 over the 1-mile course.  The top ten junior high runners receive medals.  Azia Giron finished in 20th place in a time of 7:40 and Elisabeth Bengston was 77th in a time of 10:50.  The junior high boys finished 3rd in the middle school team race with 77 points.  Gothenburg won the meet with 20 points while Minden was second with 34 points.  Individual results for the boys were as follows:  Elijah Pollard (17th in 6:28), Gage Kolar (18th in 6:32), Grady Moudry (20th in 6:33), Maddox Bennett (24th in 6:44), Brody Blair (27th in 6:46), Garret Severance (29th in 6:50), Brodie Klimek (34th in 7:05), Jericho Smith (62nd in 8:06), Skylar Probst (73rd in 8:48), and Jeter Sanders (84th in 10:01).  “Our junior high runners are really a good group of runners”, Coach Trampe said.  “We have a lot of future potential with them as long as they keep working hard and push each other to be better.”
