Chants opened up their three game week on the road traveling to Cozad to take on the Haymakers. The Chants and Haymakers started the game at frantic pace with the teams trading buckets and quick possessions. The Chants were able to grab a four point lead after the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter the Chants were able to break out and extend the lead to twelve before extending the lead before halftime to 15. “We had a lot of energy tonight and we were able to execute on the defensive end after the 1st couple of minutes.” Coach Gates said. The Chants came out strong in the 2nd half and were able to run their lead to twenty. They never looked back from there. They were able to finish off the Haymakers and win by a final of 50-37. The Chants were led by Johnny DeRiso with 15. Blake Wells added nine. Quinton Ries was able to collect 15 rebounds in the winning effort.
On Friday, the Chants hosted the Gibbon Buffaloes. The Chants starred the game on a 7-0 run before the Buffalos answered back and were able to cut the deficit to 12-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Chants and Buffalos traded leads before the half ended on a buzzer beater by the Buffalos to take a 22-16 lead. The Buffalos would open the 2nd half with a 3 the Chants would answer with a lay up but from there the Buffalos would gradually pull away from the Chants. The Buffalos would pull away for the 56-39 victory. The Chants were led by Zach Smith and Blake Wells with nine points each.
Saturday night the Chants traveled to Barlett to take on CWC. From the outset the Chants controlled the game and were able to take a 14-0 lead after the 1st quarter. The Chants would keep the pressure on the Renegades to expand their lead. 13 Chanticleers would end up scoring in the game and contribute to the final score of 54-12. The Chants were led by Johnny DeRiso with fifteen points. This was a good way to cap off our week and we were able to play a lot of guys.” Coach Gates said after the game. The Chants will travel to Burwell on Thursday before hosting St. Paul on Saturday.
