On Wednesday, Feb. 13 the LouPlatte Conference Tournament was held at Gibbon. “Going in, we knew it was going to be very challenging” said Coach Lansman. “Loup City and Centura both had full teams that would have significant talent, not to mention several other competitors from the other schools in the conference. We knew that from last year we lost 9 seniors and seven of them were state qualifiers, so our current team would really have to bring their A-game.” And that’s precisely what the Chanticleers did, because out of 18 total entries only 6 did not make it to finals. Each team can enter two into each of the 9 categories, but you only score points if you make it into finals (top 6 in each event). Humorous Prose: Kora Severance 5th, Maya Brown 6th; Serious Prose: Katharine Wadas 4th, Mykala Lytle 5th; Informative: Katie Fischer 1st, Marlee Nebesniak 6th;Entertainment: Ashley Bruha, Maya Brown; Poetry: Richele Masin 2nd, Mykala Lytle; Persuasive: Halle Jacobs 2nd, Leah Westberg; Extemporaneous: Cooper Sheets 2nd, Ashley Bruha; Duet: Halle Jacobs and Addie Sich 4th, Abby Jacobs and Katie Magiera; O.I.D.: “Spaceballs” Cooper Sheets, Kora Severance, Trevor Vancura, Katie Magiera, Katharine Wadas 1st, “Sister Cities” Katie Fischer, Abby Jacobs, Richele Masin, Addie Sich 5th. In team sweepstakes Ord was 1st with 178 points, Loup City was 2nd with 162 points, and Centura was 3rd with Centura with 140 points. “As coaches, we were extremely pleased with the outcome of the tournament. They have been working hard to get to this point, and I know many of them really wanted to bring home that Championship trophy again. Our Conference competition has grown so much in the past few years – so being able to achieve the top spot as a team three years in a row is quite an achievement. It takes every single performer to win Conference as every single point counts – and all our students should be proud. We had our non-competitors there supporting us throughout the day, as well as Mrs. Trampe and Mr. Wamberg helping coach and support the kids. It’s such a long day – and we’re just happy we came out in the end on top!”
