Track Teams Have a Great Day at the ALC Invitational

The Chanticleer track and field teams had one of their best days of the season on Monday, April 8 at the annual Arcadia-Loup City Invitational.  The girls finished third in the 11-team meet to record their highest finish of the season. The boys finished fourth in the meet that featured 11 teams.  “I was really happy with the way our kids performed in this meet”, Coach Derry Trampe stated. “We had a nice day and our kids really took advantage of it.  We had 29 personal best performances on the day and brought home a lot of medals.” The boys scored 73 points to earn their finish. Grand Island CC won the meet with 127.5 points while St. Paul was second with 119 points.  Ansley-Litchfield finished just ahead of the Chants with 82 points. Rounding out the team scores were: Ravenna (63), Burwell (54), Arcadia-Loup City (53), Central Valley (45.5), Wood River (25.5), Riverside (12.5), and Spalding Academy (8).

The girls scored 82.5 points to earn their third place finish.  Wood River won the meet with 117.5 points while the host school Arcadia-Loup City finished as the runner-up with 102.5 points.  Grand Island CC was a close fourth with 80.5 points. Rounding out the team scores were: Burwell (61), Ansley-Litchfield (43), St. Paul (42), Ravenna (39), Central Valley (38), Riverside (34.5), Spalding Academy (22).

The boys had one gold medal winner on the day as Colton Rowse won the 3200-meter run and established a new meet record in the process.  “Colton really finished strong over the last 400 meters to take the title in the race”, Coach Trampe noted. “He really has a strong kick so if we can keep him close in the race, he is going to out sprint just about anyone he races against”.  Rowse won the race in a season-best time of 10:52.38. Second place medals were won by Zach Smith in the 1600-meter run and the 4 X 800 relay team of Colton Rowse, Zach Smith, Johnny DeRiso, and Tyson Skinner. Smith won his silver medal with a season-best time of 4:55.28 and the 4 X 800 relay also established a season best time of 8:56.9.  “Zach had a really good day for us and the relay just keeps getting stronger”, Trampe said. “We seem to be on the right path we just need to continue to improve every meet.” Third place medals were won by Hayden Grint in the discus (129’ 5”) and the 4 X 400 relay team of Jaden Reilly, Austin Trejo, Tyson Skinner, and Riley Warner (3:43.80).  Fourth place medals went to Clayton Thomsen in the 300-meter IH 44.78 PB), Hayden Grint in the shot put (44’ 10” PB), and the 4 X 100 relay team of Jaden Reilly, Riley Warner, Tommy Stevens, and Solomon Campise (47.03). Fifth place medals were won by Jaden Reilly in the 100 (11.72 PB), Austin Trejo (55.58 PB), and Jesus Loya in the shot put (44’ 5.5” PB).  Quinton Ries added a sixth place medal in the long jump with a leap of 19’ 5”. Seventh place medals went to Johnny DeRiso in the 800 (2:18.14 PB) and Mitchell Knapp in the 300 IH (45.65 PB). Picking up eighth place medals were Tommy Stevens in the 100 (11.93 PB) and Jesus Loya in the discus (116’ 5” PB).

The girls brought home two gold medals from the meet.  Payton Hackel won the 100-meter high hurdles in a time of 16.78 and the 4 X 800 relay team of Kloe Severance, Delaney Cargill, Abby Jacobs, Abbi Stethem took the title in that event in a season-best time of 10:47.8.  “Payton had another good day for us and was able to run a couple of races today”, Trampe said. “I was really proud of the relay team as they took over 17 seconds off of their best time of the season. They are really coming along nicely.”  Second place medals were won by Kloe Severance in the 1,600-meter run and by Payton Hackel in the 300-meter LH. Severance took nearly 14 seconds off of her previous best time this season by recording a time of 5:38.69. Hackel recorded a time of 51.95 in her first time of running that race this season.  Kailey Bruha tied for third place in the pole vault with a vault of 8’ 6”. Fourth place medals went to Abbi Stethem in the 800 (2:45.25) and the 4 X 400 relay team of Abbi Stethem, Emma Biskeborn, Kloe Severance, and Kailey Bruha (4:38.09). Fifth place awards went to Cierra Vanosdall in the 300 LH (54.07) and Allie Moudry in the shot put (32’ 11” PB).  Sixth place medals were won by Delaney Cargill in the 800 (2:50.36), Morgan Ritz in the 1,600 (6:21.80), Cierra Vanosdall in the 100 HH (18:31), and Abby Jacobs in the triple jump (30’ 0.25” PB). Seventh place medals went to Kailey Bruha in the 200 (28.92), Abby Jacobs in the 800 (2:51.51 PB), Maddie Bengston in the 1600 (6:25.90), Morgan Ritz in the 3200 (13:55.35), and Allie Moudry in the discus (92’ 2” PB).  Reilly Peetz added an 8th place finish in the high jump with a jump of 4’ 6”.
