Girls 7th, Boys 8th at C-6 District Track Meet

Qualify 7 Athletes for State Meet

The Ord High School track and field teams hosted the C-6 district track meet this past Thursday at Bussell Park.  In a very strong field of teams the Chanticleer girls finished 7th in the 10-team field while the boys finished 8th.  “I thought that our kids really competed as hard as we could in the meet but we were just in a really loaded district meet”, Coach Derry Trampe commented.  “I was pleased with the efforts of our kids because I thought we really gave everything we had unfortunately we did not qualify more kids for the state meet.  We have a lot of young talented athletes that will be back next year and we will be a stronger team next season.” Arcadia-Loup City won a very close team race in the girls’ portion of the meet.  The Rebels scored 94 points to edge Nebraska Christian (92.5). Burwell finished third in the team race with 70 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: St. Paul (61.5), Grand Island CC (61), Centura (50), Ord (46), Ravenna (28), Palmer (19), and Fullerton (5).

In the boys team race Grand Island CC won the team title with 111 points while Fullerton finished a distant second with 93 points.  St. Paul was a close third with 88 points. Rounding out the team scores were: Centura (69), Ravenna (48), Nebraska Christian (46), Burwell (35), Ord (32), Arcadia-Loup City (4), and Palmer (1).

Two boys qualified for the state meet for the Chanticleers.  Hayden Grint punched his ticket to state by winning the discus with a personal best toss of 145’ 10”.  Jaden Reilly also earned a trip to the state meet when he was an additional qualifier in the 400-meter dash.  Reilly finished fourth in the race in a personal best time of 52.39. Jesus Loya finished third in the shot put with a personal best toss of 48’ 10”.  Fourth place medals were won by Zach Smith in the 1600-meter run (4:53.92) and the 4 X 800 relay team of Colton Rowse, Riley Warner, Tyson Skinner, and Zach Smith (8:42.19).  Sixth place medals were won by Jaden Reilly in the 100-meter dash (11.75/11.88), Colton Rowse in the 3200-meter run (11:32.87), the 4 X 100 relay team of Jaden Reilly, Riley Warner, Austin Trejo, and Mitchell Knapp (47.27), and the 4 X 400 relay team of Jaden Reilly, Austin Trejo, Solomon Campise, and Riley Warner (3:40.16).

Five girls qualified for the state meet in four different events.  Kloe Severance and Payton Hackel won titles in the 1600-meter run and 100-meter high hurdles respectively.  Severance won the 1600 in a time of 5:38.68 and Hackel won the high hurdles in a personal best time of 15.75.  Earning state qualifying spots as additional qualifiers were Payton Hackel in the 300-meter low hurdles and the 4 X 800 relay team of Kloe Severance, Delaney Cargill, Abby Jacobs, and Abbi Stethem.  Hackel finished third in the hurdles in a season best time of 49.58. The 4 X 800 relay team also finished third in a time of 10:34.18. Kailey Bruha added a third place finish in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28.27.  The 4 X 400 relay team of Abbi Stethem, Emma Biskeborn, Kloe Severance, and Kailey Bruha finished fourth in the event in a time of 4:32.29. Cierra Vanosdall added a fifth place finish in the 300-meter low hurdles in a time of 53.19.  Sixth place medals were won by Allie Moudry in the shot put (33’ 4”) and Kailey Bruha in the long jump (15’ 5”).
