Ord- The Chanticleer football team was home for the 2023 opener at a scorching hot week. The Chants took the kickoff and marched down the field and scored on the opening drive has Trent McCain took an option pitch 41 yds for a touchdown followed by a Pat from Talan Bruha. The Central City Bison got a big play on the next drive when the running back broke loose for a 59 yd touchdown run tying the game at 7-7. The Chants added to more scores in the 1st quarter from Aidan Ryschon on a 33 yd touchdown reception from Dylan Hurlburt and a 10 yd scamper from Trent McCain. Talan Bruha added two more Pat attempts. The quarter ended with score being 21-7. The Bison wouldn’t back down however scoring at the beginning of the 2nd quarter on 6yd fade route to the corner of the endzone. As the Chants usually do, they responded and scored two more times in the quarter on a 14 yd touchdown reception from Tad Kovarik thrown by Dylan Hurlurt and a 4 yd run from Trent McCain. Talan Bruha was successful on both Pat attempts.. The score at the end of the first half was 35-14. At the start of the second half, Central City completed a 64 yd touchdown pass. The Chants added another score from Trent McCain on 13 yd touchdown run. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 42-21. The Chants scored again on a 3 yd touchdown run from Aidan Ryschon at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Talan Bruha was a perfect 7-7 on Pat attempts on the night. Coach Wells had this to say after the game, “It was great to see our team play football again. We had a great crowd and we are excited to get the season underway. I thought we played well but we know we can be much better.” The Chants will have a big test next week as they go on the road to Norfolk Catholic.
