Ord - The Ord Chantcileers were at home this week to take on the Battle Creek Braves in another big matchup of top teams in C-2. The Chanticleers lost the coin flip and Battle Creek deferred until the second half. After an opening possession for the Chants that resulted in a punt, the Braves marched the ball down the field and scored the first touchdown of the game. The Chanticleers responded with a touchdown drive when Dylan Hurlburt found Aidan Ryschon for a 23 yd touchdown pass and catch to tie the game at 7-7. Talan Bruha was good on the point after attempt. The Braves took the next drive down the field but fumbled it away to the Chants and Trent McCain came up with the fumble recovery. On the next play the Braves got a strip fumble and scored to make the game 14-7. The first quarter ended with that score. The Chants weren’t able to move the ball consistently enough in the 2nd quarter and the Braves took advantage and scored two more times to make the score at the end of the half 27-7. The Braves got the ball at the beginning of the second half and went on an 8:00 minute drive to score again. At the end of the third the score was 34-7. The Chants kept fighting and were able to score one more time in the 4th quarter when Dylan Hurlburt scrambled for a 10 yd touchdown run. Talan Bruha was good on the point after attempt again. The game ended with the score being 34-14. Coach Wells commented after the game, “Battle Creek was big and physical. I thought we played hard but made to many mistakes offensively and defensively against a team as good as them. We will regroup and continue to improve as the season goes on. Our schedule as been tough but it will only help us get better in the long run. Looking forward to getting back to work on Monday. Our team has a chance to be special if we want it bad enough.” The Chanticleers will go on the road to play Gordon-Rushville on Friday.
