Gordon - The Ord Chantcileers traveled to Gordon for their fourth game of the regular season to take on the Gordon Rushville Mustangs. The Chants won the toss and decided to take the ball. After a couple of mistakes the Chants were forced to punt on their opening possession. The Chant defense stepped up and forced the Mustangs to punt. The Chants turned the ball over on downs on the next possession but the Chant defense was playing well. After a see-saw defensive battle the Chants got on the board when Dylan Hurlburt scored on a 3 Yd run. After another defensive stop by the Chants, Dylan Hurlburt found Colton Thompson for a 36 Yd touchdown pass and catch to make the score 14-0 and quarter ended with that score. In the second quarter the Chanticleer defense shut down the Mustangs and the offense got on the board three more times. Trent McCain scored on a 10 Yd run, Dylan Hurlburt threw a touchdown pass to Blake Hinrichs for 20 Yd, and Dylan scored on a 1 Yd run. At the half, the score was 35-0. The Chants defense gave up 15 Yds in the first half. The Chanticleers weren’t done scoring at the start of the second half. Trent McCain scored on a 22 Yd run. The Chant defense was able to get a safety when Talan Bruha tackled the quarterback in the enzone and Aidan Ryschon was able to scamper in from 10 Yd out. At the end of the third the score was 51-0. During the 4th quarter, the second units were able to get some quality time and Jordan Williams showed his speed when he scored on an 81 Yd touchdown run on well blocked play. Gordon Rushville was able to get on the board and score a touchdown late. The Chants added one more score at the end when Grey Geiser ran it in for a 5yd touchdown run. Coach Wells commented after the game, “We didn’t start the game quite like we wanted to but we were able to get things rolling throughout the rest of the game. A lot of guys got some quality varsity experience tonight and we came out of the game relatively healthy. We have some work to do in the area of blocking and tackling. We’ll continue to keep growing and getting better.” The Chanticleers will at home to play Gibbon this week. Come out and support the your Chanticleers.
