ORD - The Ord Chanticleers were at home this week to take on the Buffaloes on a beautiful Friday evening. The Chants got off to a fast start in the game scoring 28 points in the first quarter and the Chants defense was able to hold the Gibbon offense out of the endzone. Trent McCain scored the first touchdown on 1 yard run. The second score was on a 32 yd touchdown pass and catch from Dylan Hurlburt to Easton Ryschon. Dylan Hurlburt scored the other two touchdowns on runs from 5 and 16 yards. In the second quarter it was much the same. Dylan Hurlburt found Blake Hinrichs for the first two scores of the quarter on passes from 1 and 3 yards out. Trent McCain scored on a 23 yard fumble recovery and also on a 2 yard touchdown run. At the end of the end of the half the score was 55-0. At the start of the second half the Chants got on the score board first when Dylan Hurlburt scored on a 23 yard touchdown run. That was the only score of the quarter. In the fourth quarter, Grey Geiser scored on a 1 yard run, Haydin Nelson on a 5 yard run, and on the last play of the game Levi Klein intercepted a Gibbon pass and took it all the way for 56 yard interception return for a touchdown. Coach Wells commented after the game, “We played with a confidence tonight that we haven’t seen this season yet. We blocked, tackled, and executed in all three phases of the game. Our defense gave up minus 17 yards and our offense was able to move the ball at will. Everyone played in the game and our younger players played really well when the got their opportunity. We are not a finished product yet but we are starting to get the Big Red machine rolling.” The Chanticleers will be on the road to take on the Amherst Bronocs this week.
