The 9/10 track teams hosted their own invitational on Tuesday, April 22. The girls finished 4th in the field of 9 teams while the boys were 5th. “We were pretty happy with the performances of our kids in this meet”, Coach Derry Trampe commented. “We got a lot of kids in different events, and we tried some new events for some of the kids and learned a lot about the potential of our team as we finish the season.” The girls scored 60 points while St. Paul won the meet with 129 points and Broken Bow finished second with 122 points. Boone Central was third with 92 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: Centura (52), Ela (31), Ravenna (20), Aurora (20), and Central City (11). The boys scored 51 points to finish fifth while St. Paul won the meet with 99 points and Ravenna was second with 84 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: Centura (83), Broken bow (61), Aurora (45), Boone Central (44), Central City (32), and Elba (13).
The girls won two events in the meet with the 4x800 relay team of Elle Jess, Avery Bruha, Alexandra Jeffres, and McKenna Hernandez winning in a time of 10:55.38 and Leah Zangger won the 200-meter dash in a meet record time of 27.05. Zangger also finished second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.29. Third place medals went to Molly Klimek in the high jump (4’ 8”), Avery Bruha in the pole vault (8’ 0” PB), the 4x100 relay team of Leah Zangger, Avarie Fox, Klair DeRiso, and Elle Jess (53.38), and the 4x400 relay team of McKenna Hernandez, Molly Klimek, Alexandra Jeffres, and Avery Bruha (4:40.40). Leah Zangger also finished fourth in the high jump with a jump of 4’ 6”. Fifth place points went to Avarie Fox in the 200 (28.99 PB) and Klair DeRiso in the long jump (14’ 10”). Alexandra Jeffres finished sixth in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 7’ 6”.
Beau Wells was the lone gold medalist for the boys as he won the pole vault with a personal best vault of 13’ 7”. The mark by Wells was also a meet record. Second place medals went to Gavin Whited in the 3200 (12:11.19) and the 4x800 relay team of Jaxson Sanders, Jaxon Edghill, Gavin Whited, and Nolan Woodward (9:56.85). The 4x100 relay team of Calvin Thomsen, Beau Shafer, Mason McCullogh, and Parker Mageria finished third in a time of 50.07. Fourth place awards went to Gavin Whited in the 1600 (5:26.93 PB), Beau Shafer in the shot put (37’ 4”), and he 4x400 relay team of Evan Lane, Parker Mageria, Jaxon Edghill, and Jaxson Sanders (4:06.52). Fifth place finishes went to Jaxon Edghill in the 400 (59.16 PB), Jacob Medina in the 3200 (13:55.52), and Victor Negrete in the long jump (16’ 9.5” PB). Evan Lane added a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 32’ 3”.
