The Ord High School track and field teams competed in the annual West Holt Invitational on Thursday, April 24 in Atkinson.  Both the boys and girls came home with third place finishes from the meet.  “We had another good day for both our boys and girls”, Coach Derry Trampe commented.  “There was a lot of quality competition at this meet, and it challenged our kids to reach new marks.  I believe we had 31 personal best marks on the day and I was pleased with that since it was not the best day to compete.  However, everyone had to compete in the same conditions, and I am glad that our kids stepped up and competed hard.” The girls scored 111.67 points to finish less than 7 points out of second.  West Holt won the girls team title with 133.67 points and Battle Creek was second with 118.33 points.  Rounding out the team scoring were Valentine (77.33), North Central (39), Elkhorn Valley (25), Ainsworth (19), and Sandhills/Thedford (2). 


The boys scored 84 points to finish in third place on the day.  Battle Creek ran away with the team title with 165 points while West Holt was second with 107 points.  Rounding out the team scoring were: Valentine (82), Ainsworth (31), North Central (26), Elkhorn Valley (18), and Sandhills/Thedford (12).


McKenna Hernandez, Addi Blaha, Trinity Chatfield, and Natalie Williams all brought home individual gold medals from the meet.  Hernandez won the 1600 in a personal best time of 5:45.87. Blaha won the pole vault with a jump of 9’ 1” while Chatfield won the high jump with a jump of 5’ 3” and Williams won the long jump with a leap of 16’ 11.75”.  The 4x400 relay team of Leah Zangger, Elle Jess, Gentry Racek, and Klair DeRiso also won a gold medal with a season best time of 4:24.81.  Natalie Williams and Leah Zangger also brought home runner-up medals in their events.  Williams finished second in the 100 (12.54) and 200 (26.36) while Zangger was second in the 400 in a personal best time of 62.90.  Zangger added a third place medal in the high jump with a personal best jump of 4’ 9”.  Also finishing third were the 4x100 relay team of Natalie Williams, Avarie Fox, Klair DeRiso, and Leah Zangger in a season best time of 51.72 and the 4x100 throwers relay of Lillie Shoemaker, Maddison Waltman, Elizabeth Skibinski, and Allison Wheeler (62.52). Fourth place medals were won by Elle Jess in the 800 (2:41.94), Avery Bruha in the 3200 (13:29.26 PB) and pole vault (8’ 1” PB), Jamie Vavra in the high jump (4’ 5”), and the 4x800 relay team of Elle Jess, Avery Bruha, Alexandra Jeffres, and McKenna Hernandez (11:04.90).  Fifth place medals went to Avery Bruha in the 1600 (6:23.73) Lillie Shoemaker in the shot put (36’ 3.75”), and Azia Giron in the triple jump (30’ 5.5”).  Lillie Shoemaker added a sixth place medal in the discus (97’ 6”) and Gentry Racek and Alexandra Jeffres tied for sixth in the pole vault with a jump of 7’ 7” which was a personal best for Jeffres.


Elijah Pollard, Jed Boettcher, and Beau Wells all brought home individual gold medals from the meet.  Pollard won the 1600 in a time of 4:42.85 and Wells won the pole vault with a jump of 11’ 7”.  Boettcher won the discus with a personal best toss of 158’ 2”.  The 4x800 relay team of Jordan Williams, Gunner Rice, Garret Severance, and Elijah Pollard combined to win the event in a time of 8:33.87.  Gage Kolar tied for second in the pole vault with a jump of 10’ 7”.  The 4x400 relay team of Jordan Williams, Easton Ryschon, Garret Severance, and Elijah Pollard was second in 3:38.98 and the 4x100 freshman relay team of Calvin Thomsen, Kyptan Scheideler, Evan Lane, and Mason McCullogh finished second in a time of 52.87.  Elijah Pollard added a third place finish in the 400 in a time of 52.50.  Fourth place medals were won by Jordan Williams in the 400 (54.67), Garret Severance in the 800 (2:13.45), Gunner Rice in the 3200 (11:02.40) and pole vault (10’ 7” PB), and the 4x100 throwers relay team of Chance Moudry, Beau Shafer, Madden Beland, and Parker Mageria (52.71). Picking up fifth place medals were Levi Klein in the 300 intermediate hurdles (43.06 PB) and Jed Boettcher in the shot put (43’ 6.75’). Gunner Rice added a sixth place finish in the 800 in a time of 2:14.04.
