Girls 4X100 Relay Breaks School Record
Qualify 13 for State
The Ord High School track and field teams competed in the C-8 District Track meet held at Kearney Catholic on Thursday, May 15. Both teams finished as the runner-up to the host team. Seven girls qualified for the state meet in a total of eight events and six boys qualified in a total of six events. “I felt like we had a pretty good day overall”, Coach Derry Trampe commented. “They have a great facility at Keareny Catholic now and our kids performed well. However, like all meets there were some places where things did not go as well as we hoped but our kids competed hard and did the best they could. That is all you can ask from them as their coach.” The boys scored 84.5 points to earn the second-place plaque in a tight race with Alma (83). Kearney Catholic won the meet with 107 points. Rounding out the team scores were: South Loup (68.5), Hi-Line (64), Arcadia-Loup City (53), Ravenna (41), Gibbon (21), and Southern Valley (4).
The girls racked up 96 points on the day to finish in second behind meet champion Kearney Catholic who won the meet with 144 points. Southern Valley finished in third with 81 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: South Loup (51), Alma (41), Hi-Line (31), Ravenna (30), Arcadia-Loup City (29), and Gibbon (21).
Finish first in their events and qualifying for state in those events were Beau Wells, Elijah Pollard, and the 4x800 relay team. Wells won the pole vault with a jump of 13’ 4” while Pollard won both the 400 (50.09) and 1600 (4:49.81). Pollard teamed up with Jordan Williams, Gunner Rice, and Garret Severance to win the 4X800 relay in a time of 8:29.76. Levi Klein finished second in the 110-meter high hurdles to qualify for the state meet. He recorded a personal best time of 16.23 in the prelims and ran his second fastest time in the finals (16.33) to secure his trip to state. Klein also finished third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a personal best time of 42.61. Although he was not an automatic qualifier, his time was fast enough for him to qualify for the state meet in the event. The 4x400 relay team of Jordan Williams, Easton Ryschon, Beau Wells, and Elijah Pollard finished second in a time of 3:35.89 but did not qualify for the state meet. Third place medals were won by Gunner Rice in the 3200 and the 4x100 relay team of Easton Ryschon, Jordan Williams, Grey Geiser, and Beau Wells. Rice ran a personal best time of 10:48.99 in the 3200 and the relay team finished in 45.14. Garret Severance finished fourth in the 800 in a time of 2:11.91. Gage Kolar added a fifth-place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 11’ 10”. Sixth place medals were won by Easton Ryschon in the 200 (24.87/24.54) and high jump (5’ 5”), Jordan Williams in the 400 (53.34 PB), Jed Boettcher in the shot put (44’ 1.5”), and Gunner Rice in the pole vault (11’ 4”).
Lillie Shoemaker was the only gold medalist for the Chanticleer girls. Shoemaker won the shot put with a toss of 35’ 7” to earn her trip to the state meet. McKenna Hernandez and Trinity Chatfield brought home silver medals and earned trips to Omaha. Hernandez was the runner-up in the 1600 in a time of 5:50.48 and Chatfield was the runner-up in the high jump with a jump of 5’ 4”. The 4x100 relay team of Natalie Williams, Avarie Fox, Klair DeRiso, and Leah Zangger also finished second in a school record time of 50.15 and qualified for the state meet as an additional qualifier. The 4x800 relay team of Elle Jess, Avery Bruha, McKenna Hernandez, and Gentry Racek finished second in a season best time of 10:24.86 but did not advance to state. Natalie Williams finished third in the long jump, 100 and 200, and established marks good enough to qualify for state. Williams jumped 17’ 0” in the long jump, ran 12.46 in the prelims and 12.89 in the finals of the 100, and ran 26.54 in the prelims and 25.08 in the finals of the 200 to earn her trip to Omaha. Leah Zangger was fourth in the 200 after qualifying for the finals in 28.10 and then running a personal best time of 26.23. Her time was also fast enough to qualify for state. Other third place winners for the Chants were Avery Bruha in the 3200 (13:35.29), Addison Blaha in the pole vault (9’ 4”), and the 4x400 relay team of Leah Zangger, Elle Jess, Klair DeRiso, and Gentry Racek (4:24.28). Molly Klimek was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4’ 10”. Fifth place medals were won by Avarie Fox in the 400 (67.89), Allison Wheeler in the shot put (32’ 0.75” PB), Azia Giron in the triple jump (31’ 1.75”), and Avery Bruha in the pole vault (8’ 4” PB). Allison Wheeler and Gentry Racek added sixth place finishes to the team total. Wheeler threw a personal best 106’ 1” in the discus for her medal and Racek cleared a personal best 8’ 4” in the pole vault to earn her medal.
