The Chanticleers couldn’t seem to get much going on the road against the C1 No. 2 Central City Bison on Friday night and were handed a 38-7 defeat, beginning the season with a 0-1 record.
It was a rough night for Chant for the Chanticleer offense, which only accounted for 134 yards of total offense and turned the ball over a couple of times. Grey Geiser scored the lone Chanticleer touchdown on the night. Colt Meyer added the point after, to begin the year perfect on point after touchdowns. The recipients of Williams’ two completed passes were seniors Easton Ryschon and Colton Thompson, who each finished with one reception for 11 yards.
The defense played well at times, but gave up too many big plays and had some missed tackles. Sophomore Beau Shafer led the defense with nine tackles, while senior Haydin Nelson added eight. Newcomer to the football program, Senior Jeter Sanders added two solo tackles, the first of his career.
The Chanticleers will look to bounce back at home Friday night against the Kearney Catholic Stars at 7:00 p.m. The Stars began their season at home with a 37-14 victory over St. Paul.
