Ord, NE - The Ord Chanticleers kept their momentum rolling Friday night, overpowering the St. Paul Wildcats 49-12. Behind a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense, Ord dominated from start to finish in front of their home crowd.
The Chanticleers struck first in the opening quarter when Beau Wells punched in a 5-yard touchdown run. After St. Paul answered with a long scoring pass, Ord quickly regained control. Quarterback Jordan Williams found Colton Thompson on a 4-yard touchdown pass, then added a 1-yard run to push the lead to 21-6. Before halftime, Williams connected with Easton Ryschon for an 18-yard touchdown strike, giving the Chanticleers a commanding 28-6 advantage at the break.
Ord didn’t slow down after halftime. Williams threw a 53-yard bomb to Haydin Nelson, then added a 4-yard rushing score of his own in the third quarter. Nelson capped the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Kicker Colt Meyer was perfect on the night, converting all seven of his extra-point attempts.
By the end of the night, Ord had racked up 467 total yards of offense, including 312 rushing yards and 155 passing yards. Defensively, the Chanticleers clamped down on St. Paul, limiting the Wildcats to just 85 rushing yards and forcing a turnover. The defense held St. Paul to only 11 first downs and just one successful third-down conversion after halftime. The defense was led by Grey Geiser, Caden Lytle, and Colt Meyer, each recording six tackles in the game.
“Our kids played with confidence again tonight,” Head Coach Nate Wells said. “We’re spreading the ball around, and that makes us tough to defend. I’m proud of how physical we played on both sides.”
The victory improves Ord’s record to 2-3 on the season. The Chanticleers will look to keep building momentum as they prepare for next week’s matchup at home against GICC.
