The Chanticleer Volleyball team came into the tournament seeded 3rd and finished with a silver medal. On Monday, October 13th they hosted Central City in the first round of the LouPlatte Conference tournament. Earlier in the season, Central City beat Ord 3-1 in a regular season match so this would prove a revenge match for the Chanticleers. After winning both sets 1 and 3, the Chants fell in the 4th set which forced a 5th. The Chanticleer offense, led by freshmen setter Brylie Collier, hit for a percentage of .318 in the 5th set, proving too much for the Bison and taking the 5th. Senior middle blocker Jamie Vavra led the Chant attack with 18 kills, hitting a .343 percentage, followed closely by freshmen middle blocker Kynlie Wilson with 10 kills. Defense was led by junior libero, Payton Bruha and again, Vavra with 5 blocks. The Chants then rolled into Tuesday, facing Centura in the semi-finals. The Chants got off to an exciting start finishing set 1, 25-23. With the help of their serve receivers, Klair DeRiso, Molly Klimek, Gentry Racek and Payton Bruha, the chants surpassed Centura in the second set with 13 kills to win. The chants lost the 3rd set and ended up overcoming Centura in the 4th to win the match sending them to the LouPlatte conference finals. Jamie Vavra led the Chants with a season high, 21 kills, hitting a percentage of .594 followed by senior outside hitter Lillie Shoemaker with 15 kills hitting a percentage of .284. The Chants then prepared to take on the St. Paul Wildcats in the finals on Thursday. The Chants fell to St. Paul, after playing tough and with a lot of heart, never giving up and losing the third set narrowly with a score of 24-26. The Chants took home a LouPlatte Conference Runner-up plaque and are playing with confidence and composure heading into the post season. “We would like to thank the community of Ord for all of your support throughout this week and shared excitement for Chant Volleyball. We have loved getting to a championship match and working to continue the streak!” - Riley Smith.
The Chants will take on Doniphan-Trumbull on Thursday, October 23rd and will begin post-season play on Monday, October 27th, opponent and location TBA.
