The One-Act team at Ord High School has spent the season practicing, performing, and perfecting their on-stage and off-stage talents. Our 2025 production, Storybook Court: Full of Beans, brings classic fairy-tale characters to life in a hilarious courtroom showdown. Jack is put on trial, the Big Bad Wolf huffs and puffs, and Little Red Riding Hood takes the stand with a sharp tongue and even sharper wit to defend Hugo Giant.
Under the guidance of directors Rachel Hornickel and Madison Flint, the enthusiastic cast and crew of 52 students crafted a fast-paced, imaginative performance full of humor, heart, and high energy. The team’s commitment to character work, comedic timing, and technical precision was evident at each competition this season. Many things go on behind the scenes to make a production successful, and it was evident this year that we had just as many talented individuals backstage as we did on-stage!
This dedication paid off in a big way throughout the season. The team earned District Champions, securing their spot at the C-1 State One-Act competition on December 11th in Norfolk. Their polished performance also earned a Tech Award, recognizing the outstanding work of the backstage crew whose seamless scene changes, props, costumes, makeup, lighting, and sound helped bring the whimsical courtroom world to life. Additionally, at district's last week, Skylar Kokes was recognized as Best Performer. In addition, the team brought home 13 acting honors, showcasing the depth of talent across the entire cast. Throughout the season, cast members have received a total of 68 acting awards, which is a new record for our team.
The production of Storybook Court: Full of Beans not only showcases the creativity, talent, and dedication of Ord High School’s fine arts students but also demonstrates the power of teamwork, from the cast members who bring the characters to life on stage to the tech crew members who make the magic happen behind the scenes.
As they prepare to take their show to State next week, the Ord High School One-Act team continues to embody the resilience, humor, and collaborative spirit that define the best in high school theater. Our season may be ending, but the momentum is just beginning to set the stage for success in the future!
