The Ord High School track and field teams got their season started at the annual UNK Indoor Invitational for B and C schools on Saturday, March 21. No team scores are kept for this meet and medals are given to the top six finishers in each event. In addition to Ord, teams competing in the meet included Kearney Catholic, Arcadia-Loup City, Hastings, Elm Creek, Burke SD, Maywood-Hays Center, and Kimball. “It was a good start to the season for us”, Coach Derry Trampe commented. “We established several quality marks on the day and brought home a lot of medals from the meet.”
The girls had 2 individual champions in the meet. Leah Zangger won the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.42 while Trinity Chatfield won the high jump with a personal best jump of 5’ 5”. “Leah and Trinity are picking up where they left off last season”, Trampe said. “Those are quality marks for this early in the season and it looks like we have a lot to look forward to.” Second place medals were won by McKenna Hernandez in the 1600 (6:04.75), Lillie Shoemaker in the shot put (35’ 8”), Addi Blaha in the pole vault (9’ 6”), and the 4 X 800 relay team of Elle Jess, Daisy Shafer, Claire Petska, and McKenna Hernandez (11:16.01). Picking up third place medals were Klair DeRiso in the 200 (28.86), Avarie Fox in the triple jump (30’ 4”), Avery Bruha in the pole vault (8’ 6” PB), and the 4 X 400 relay team of Gentry Racek, Daisy Shafer, McKenna Hernandez, and Elle Jess (4:36.85). Fourth place medals went to Leah Zangger in the 60 (8.30), Avery Bruha in the 1600 (6:14.51), and Adalyn Kelly in the high jump (5’ 0”). Fifth place awards went to Avarie Fox in the 200 (29.77), Kynlie Wilson in the 400 (72.02), Claire Petska in the 800 (2:52.68), and Ellie Boettcher in the shot put (31’ 8”). Gentry Racek finished 6th in the pole vault with a jump of 7’ 6”.
First place medals for the boys were won by Jason Edghill in the 400 (58.84 PB), Gavin Whited in the 3200 (11:52.49), Beau Wells in the pole vault (14’ 0”), and the 4X400 relay team of Jordan Williams, Calvin Thomsen, Jaxon Edghill, and Easton Ryschon (3:54.86). “It was great to see Beau vault 14’ this early in the season and I was happy to see Jaxon and Gavin win their events at this meet”, Coach Trampe noted. “The 4X400 was a nice surprise because we had to substitute a couple of guys in because of an injury and the timing of the race and they were still able to win the event.” Third place medals were won by Evan Lane in the 400 (60.32 PB), James Piskorski in the 800 (2:22.40), and the 4X800 relay team of Jaxson Sanders, James Piskorski, Jaxon Edghill, and Finn Riley (9:42.00). Fourth place medals went to Finn Riley in the 1600 (5:12.15), Kane Whited in the 60HH (10.53), and Jordan Williams in the long jump (19’ 2”). Bringing home fifth place medals were Jaxson Sanders in the 800 (2:25.63) and Gavin Whited in the 1600 (5:21.81 PB).
