The Chanticleer golf team shot a 309 and grabbed 2nd place at the Ord Invite, the first meet of the season. St. Paul won the meet with Grand Island Central Catholic third.
Caden Lytle medaled 4th with a 71, only one stroke off the 70 that won the meet. Brody Blair shot 76 for ninth and Landon Critel shot 80 for 15th. Other scores for the Chants were Colt Meyer at 82 and Austin Stethem 94.
Coach Mike Bechtold said he liked what he saw.
“The guys all felt they could’ve played better and still came away with a good team score and a plaque,” Bechtold said, “so that’s a great start to the season when we can have a good result but still feel there is gas in the tank.”
Bechtold said Blairs performance was notable. “Brody took an 8 on 1, his third hole of the day, and that could have been a turning point. He chose to grind and really shot lights out the rest of the way.”
Chant JVs also played in the meet with Grey Geiser shooting 94 at his first meet ever.
The Chants next travel to Boone Central for an invitational on April 18th.
