Ord High School Seniors attend Valley County Government Day on April 14th. Seniors learned about the functions, importance, and impact of county government on their own lives. The seniors were joined by Mr. Gates, Ms. Barrientez, Heidi Proskocil, and Dawn Skibinski. While attending, students were able to hear about potential employment opportunities in Valley County and the services the county government provides and carries out.. The students were able to sit in on a meeting of the Valley County Board of Supervisors. They were also able to visit the County Attorney, Assessor, Treasurer, Clerk, Weed, Court Services, Sheriff, and Veterans Services. The Valley County Extension Office also presented information to the students. Students learned about the building and its history from Danny Vanek. The revival of the event was the idea of Commissioner Jade Stunkel, and the event was led by County Clerk KeShara Poland. “County Government Day is a great opportunity for our students to see the impacts of county government and know how to interact with it.” This represents an opportunity to see government in a face-to-face before they head out of high school.” Mr. Gates said.
