Chatfield Wins Gold in High Jump
Fifteen members of the track and field teams qualified in nine events for the Central Nebraska Track Championships held at Northwest High School. The meet was held on a cool and windy Monday, April 27. “I felt like we competed well on a day with tough conditions”, Coach Derry Trampe said. “We had some quality performances on the day despite the cold and windy conditions. I am pleased with what we are doing right now, but we have some work to do as we prepare for the last few meets of the season.”
Trinity Chatfield continued her winning ways in the high jump as she won the meet with a jump of 5’ 4”. This was the first medal for Chatfield in this meet. Beau Wells also brought home a medal from the meet by finishing in a tie for third place in the pole vault. Wells cleared 13’ 2” to earn his medal.
In addition to the medal winners, the Chants had several quality performances in the meet and finished just outside the medals. Leah Zangger ran a 26.30 in the 200-meter dash to finish fourth. Lillie Shoemaker had a season’s best throw in the shot put to finish fifth with a toss of 36’ 1”. The boys 4X800 relay team of James Piskorski, Jaxson Sanders, Gavin Whited, and Finn Reilly finished in seventh place in a time of 9:11.09. Finishing in eighth place were Ellie Boettcher in the shot put (33’ 1.5”), Finn Reilly in the 1600 (5:02.73), and the 4X400 girls relay team of Klair DeRiso, Gentry Racek, Elle Jess, and Mya Beland (4:26.67). The girls 4X800 relay team of McKenna Hernandez, Elle Jess, Avery Bruha, and Gentry Racek finished ninth in a time of 10:44.76. McKenna Hernandez also qualified for the 1600 but had to pull out of the race with a knee injury after the first two laps.
