The Ord Chanticleers continued their strong start to the season Friday night, improving to 3-0 with a41-6 home victory over the Valentine Badgers. Ord opened the scoring in the first quarter when Jordan Williams connected with Beau Wells for a 37-yard touchdown pass. The Chanticleers added another score early in the second quarter when Williams found Knox Nelson for a 22-yard touchdown, giving Ord a 13-0 lead. Valentine answered with its only score of the night on a 22-yard touchdown pass, cutting the lead to 13-6. From there, however, the Chanticleers took control.
Ord scored twice in the third quarter. Williams connected with Nolan Woodward for an 18-yard touchdown, and Wells later scored on a 19-yard run to extend the lead to 27-6. In the fourth quarter, Williams threw two more touchdown passes, a 47-yard strike to Evan Lane and an 11-yard touchdown to Wells, producing the final 41-6 margin. The Chanticleers finished with 386 yards of total offense, including 235 yards rushing and 151 yards passing, while holding Valentine to 231 total yards. Ord also finished with 15 first downs and did not turn the ball over.
Williams had an efficient night at quarterback, completing 7 of 10 passes for 151 yards and five touchdowns. He also added 82 yards rushing on 11 carries. Wells led the rushing attack with 116 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, including a 73-yard run. He also caught four passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Howard Winkelbauer led the Chanticleers with eight tackles and four assists. Williams recorded six tackles, an assist and a fumble recovery, while Beau Shafer added three tackles and three assists. Calvin Thomsen recorded a sack and a tackle for loss. Special teams were also solid, with Woodward converting five extra points.
The Chanticleers will travel to Lincoln Lutheran next week at 7:00 p.m.
