Ord- The 5-0 Ord Chanticleer football team traveled to Grand Island Friday night to take on the GICC Crusaders. The Chanticleers started fast again scoring 28 points in the first quarter. To start the game, the Kelen Meyer recovered a picture-perfect onside kick. From then on it was all Chanticleers as they would drive down the field and score on Tommy Stevens 5 yard run. The Chanticleers would strike quick again when Kelen Meyer picked off the Crusaders and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. Kelen Meyer got his 2nd interception of the game on the next possession which lead to an 11-yard touchdown run by Tommy Stevens. The Chanticleers forced the Crusaders to punt on the next possession and Zach Smith scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to close out the first quarter. On the first play of the second quarter, Tommy Stevens showed off his speed as he raced 60 yards for a touchdown. After forcing another punt by the Crusaders, Tommy Stevens scored on a 54-yard touchdown run. The Chanticleer defense smothered the Crusaders in the first half holding them to 29 yards on 28 plays. Kelen Meyer added a 40-yard field goal at the end of the half to make it 45-0 at halftime. In the second half, Quinton Ries took a Jet Sweep around the left side for a 6-yard touchdown run. Later in the quarter, Zach Smith would hook up with Quinton in the back of the endzone with a 17-yard touchdown reception. The Chanticleers dominated in all phases of the game. The offense was once again very efficient, the defense was awesome, and the special teams were very solid. Field position and ball security were once again exceptional for the Chants on Friday night. The defensive line and offensive line owned the line scrimmage.
