The Chant boys basketball team hosted Burwell on Thursday. The Chants and Longhorns would use the 1st half to light up the scoreboard and the half would end with a 43-38 lead for the Chants The Chants would start to pull away in the 2nd quarter but a late 8-2 run by the Longhorns would cut the Chanticleer lead to 5 at the break. The Chants would be able to hold the lead going into the 4th but the Chants would go cold in the 4th and allow the longhorns to take the lead and the Chants were never able to get the lead back. “We played well and sometimes when you play a good team you can play well and lose.” Coach Gates said after the game. “We just had a few moments that cost us tonight and that was the difference in the game.” Gates added. The Chants were led by Johnny DeRiso with 23 points and Blake Hinrichs added 16 points for the Chants. Will Grint had nine points and Cade Geiser led the Chants with seven rebounds for the game. 

On Friday the Chants traveled to St. Paul to take on the Wildcats. The Chants coming off a tough loss the night before fell behind to start the game.and the Wildcats were able to stretch the lead to 12 at halfitme.”It can be hard to come off a game like last night and then play another tough opponent and they jumped on us to start the game.” Coach Gates said. The Chants would open the 2nd half like they played the night before and quickly cut the lead to 3 in the 3rd quarter before getting the lead down to five a the end of the 3rd. Then the Chants would keep the momentum going and carry it on to a 53-45 victory. “Credit our guys for bouncing back tonight because that is not easy to do after all the tough losses lately.” Coach Gates said. The Chants were led by Blake Hirnichs with 16 and Johnny DeRiso added 13 for the Chants. Blake Wells chipped in eight points. Will Grint was able to capture ten boards in the win.
