ORD, Neb. - Ord High School (OHS) middle school teacher Mrs. Courtney Welniak, along with six OHS students, recently hosted an international traveling exhibit.

The “Anne Frank – A History for Today” exhibit is coordinated by the Anne Frank House and has traveled all over the world, and is presented more than 150 times per year. The Anne Frank House was founded May 3, 1957 to preserve the house of Prinsengracht 263 where Anne Frank hid from Nazis with seven other Jews for two years. The house was opened as a museum for the general public in 1960 and is one of the most visited museums in the Netherlands.

The exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank against the background of the Holocaust and World War II.  OHS students Kaiya Cassell, Aiden Cicotte, Allie Moudry, Marin Reilly, Annie Struckman and Anabel Zaruba served as tour guides for students and community members.  “The students have been responsible for the exhibit setup and leading the tours through the panels,” said Welniak. “They have taken time to be very detailed in their presentation and treat this topic with respect.”  Welniak and her students attended a training in December led by education coordinator, Kael Sagheer, from The Institute for Holocaust Education. The students learned how to present the material as well as set-up and takedown of the panels.

"This has been such a rewarding experience to host this exhibit,” Welniak said. “What I have enjoyed the most is seeing our students become the leaders of the exhibit after learning about the timeline of the Holocaust, the Frank family, and anti-semitism. I think the title of our exhibit "Anne Frank--A History for Today" shows that Anne Frank's story is still relevant even today."
