Qualify 12 for State Meet

The high school track and field teams competed in the C-6 district track meet in Centura last Thursday and qualified 12 individuals for the state meet in Omaha.  “I was pleased to qualify that many athletes out of a tough district”, Coach Derry Trampe noted.  “I felt very good about how hard our kids competed.  The effort that our kids put in on Thursday was outstanding and I couldn't be prouder of our team.”  Girls qualifying for the state meet were Allie Moudry in the shot put and discus; Journi Moran in the triple jump and 4 X 100 relay; Britta Deden in the 100 HH, 300 LH, 200, and 4 X 100 relay; Lexi Vancura in the triple jump and 4 X 100 relay; Kaidence Wilson in the 4 X 100 relay; and Marin Reilly in the shot put.  Boys qualifying for the state meet were John DeRiso in the 400, 800, and 4 X 800 relay; Will Grint in the shot put; Calen Pollard in the 3200 and 4 X 800 relay; Sam Boettcher in the discus; Owen Lane in the 4 X 800 relay; and Jace Geiser in the 4 X 800 relay.

The girls scored 84.33 points to grab the runner-up spot and finish just 7.67 points behind meet champion Shelby-Rising City (92).  Nebraska Christian was finished right behind the Chants with 80.33 points.  Rounding out the team scoring were Centura (73.5), Cross County (61.5), Arcadia-Loup City (58), Grand Island Central Catholic (34), Ravenna (19), Heartland (17), and Twin River (6.33).  Grand Island Central Catholic won the team title in the boys meet with 126 points.  Centura finished as runner-up with 103 points.  The Chants finished in third with 83 points.  Rounding out the team scoring were Twin River (51), Arcadia-Loup City (38), Nebraska Christian (35), Shelby-Rising City (32), Cross County (25), Ravenna (20), and Heartland (14).

The 4 X 800 relay team of Calen Pollard, Owen Lane, Jace Geiser, and John DeRiso was the lone gold medal winner for the boys’ team.  The team combined to win the event in 8:48.32 and punch their ticket to the state meet.  Earning silver medals and qualifying for the state meet were John DeRiso in the 800 (2:08.13), Calen Pollard in the 3200 (10:42.69), and Will Grint in the shot put (48’ 5.75”).  Third place medals were won by John DeRiso in the 400 (53.75 this time qualified him for the state meet as an additional qualifier), Owen Lane in the 800 (2:11.50), Sam Boettcher in the discus (144’ 0” PB this distance qualified him for the state meet as an additional qualifier), the 4 X 100 relay team of Aidan Ryschon, Hayden Kluthe, Dylan Hurlburt, and Gage Racek (47.54), and the 4 X 400 relay team of John DeRiso, Calen Pollard, Aidan Ryschon, and Owen Lane (3:38.78).  Fourth place medals were won by Garret Severance in the 1600 (5:11.93), Sam Boettcher in the shot put (44’ 11.75” PB), and Blake Wells in the pole vault (12’ 9”).  Fifth place awards went to Gage Racek in the 200 (24.36/24.37 PB), Elijah Pollard in the 1600 (5:12.25), and Jacob Stam in the shot put (44’ 9.5”).  Owen Lane added a sixth place finish in the 400 in a time of 57.05.

Gold medal winners that qualified for the state meet were Britta Deden in the 300 LH (49.67) and 200 (27.77/27.58), and the 4 X 100 relay team of Lexi Vancura, Journi Moran, Kaidence Wilson, and Britta Deden (52.65).  Finish second and earning a trip to the state meet was Allie Moudry in the shot put with a personal best toss of 36’ 10.5”.  Third place medals were won by Nikie Nelson in the 400 (65.92), Britta Deden in the 100 HH (17.00/16.37 the time in the finals was fast enough to qualify for state as an additional qualifier),  and Lexi Vancura in the triple jump (34’ 11” this distance was long enough to qualify for state as an additional qualifier).  Fourth place awards went to Kaidence Wilson in the high jump (4’ 9”), Brookelyn Fox in the pole vault (9’ 0” PB), Journi Moran in the triple jump (33’ 11” this distance was long enough to qualify for state as an additional qualifier), and the 4 X 800 relay team of Piper Whited, Macy Warner, Izzy Jeffres, and Allie Miller (12:00.84).  Fifth place medals were won by Kaidence Wilson in the 200 (29.31/28.55 PB), Piper Whited in the 1600 (6:20.38), Jocelyn Hinrichs in the 300 LH (53.65), Marin Reilly in the shot put (35’ 10.5” this distance was long enough to qualify for state as an additional qualifier), Allie Moudry in the discus (116’ 8” PB this distance was long enough to qualify for state as an additional qualifier), and the 4 X 400 relay team of Nikie Nelson, Macy Warner, Izzy Jeffres, and Marin Reilly (4:38.80). Sixth place medals were won by Macy Warner in the 3200 (14:00.43) and Jocelyn Hinrichs in the 100 HH (18.09/18.11).
