Central City- The 2022 Chanticleer football team traveled to Central City last Friday looking to
start the season off the right way. The Chants started fast, by taking the ball down the field on a
long opening drive and scoring a touchdown. Dylan Hurlburt scrambled to his left, made a play,
and found Talan Bruha in the middle of the field for a 20-Yd touchdown reception. Talan did a
great job coming back to the ball and then making a good move to reach the endzone. The Chant
defense shut down the Bison on their opening drive and a fast 1st Quarter ended with the Chants
being on top 7-0. The Chants got on the board first in the 2nd Quarter when Dylan Hurlburt
scored on a 9-Yd run that was blocked well by the big Chant offensive line. To their credit,
Central City drove the field and scored their first touchdown of the game on an 11-Yd run from
Dylan Pfeifer. The Bison scored a 2-Pt conversion to make the score 14-8; that is how the 1st
Half ended. Central City received the ball first in the second half. After drives stalled by both
teams, the Bison tied the game with a 64-Yd touchdown reception from Ashton Gragg and a
missed extra Pt. The third quarter ended with the score tied at 14-14. At the start of the 4th
quarter, the Chanticleers responded and drove down the field for the score. The chanticleers ran
an option play and Aidan Ryschon scored on a 9-Yd run with a great pitch from Dylan. The
Chants went up 20-14. Central City responded again and tied the game at 20-20. The Chants dug
deep and put another scoring drive together when Dylan found Aidan on a 17-Yd pass and catch.
Central City put another drive together and the Chanticleer defense forced a big fumble and it
was recovered by Talan Bruha. The Chants needed a couple of first downs to close the game out
and were able to get a couple and then Trent McCain scored on an electric run from 50-Yds out
to seal the win. The Chants will play at home next week and take on Norfolk Catholic.
