Ord - The Ord Chanticleers were at home Friday to take on the Amherst Broncos. The Chants got off to a fast start forcing a fumble on Amherst’s first possession and coming up with a score from Trent McCain on a 1-yard run. The first quarter was a back-and-forth defensive battle. The Chants kept getting untimely penalties that halted some drives. The quarter ended 7-0. In the second quarter, Amherst got a long run and kicked a field goal to make it 7-3. After some more untimely penalties and a couple of turnovers, Amherst made another big play scoring on a 43-yard touchdown pass. The Chants could not score at the end of the half and the score at half was 10-7. The Chants got the ball to start the second quarter and drove the length of the field and scored on a 1yard touchdown run from Trent McCain. The Chant defense started getting multiple stops and forcing turnovers in the second half. Talan Bruha had 2 interceptions and the defense forced 3 fumbles in the game. Blake Hinrichs scored the other touchdown in the third quarter scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run. The third quarter ended with the Chants leading 21-10. The offense and defense really clicked in the second half and the Chants scored three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Trent McCain scored on a 10-yard touchdown run and Blake Hinrichs rushed for two scores from 2 and 23 yards out.  The final score was 41-10. Coach Wells commented after the game, “We got off to a slow start tonight, too many penalties and turnovers. After we settle in and stopped making errors, we were able to wear them down in the second half. Give them credit, they are really starting to play good football.” The Chanticleers will be on the road this week to play the Kearney Catholic Stars.
