Ord - The Ord Chanticleers went on the road to play the Knights of Norfolk Catholic in the C2 State Semifinals. The Chants got off to a slow start allowing the Knights to score early and often in the first half. The Knights took the opening possession and raced down the field scoring on a 34-yard touchdown run. On the ensuing kickoff, the Chants fumbled, and the Knights were able to add to the score by kicking a field goal. On the Chants next possession, the offense finally got the ball and drove to midfield before they had to punt. The Knights would score again to make it 17-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Knights added two more scores before half and the score going into half was 31-0. In the second half, the Chants finally got the offense going and were able to drive the length of the field and score when Blake Hinrichs connected with Trent McCain on a 19-yard pass and catch. The Chant defense bowed up and forced the Knights to punt on the next drive. The Chants drove down inside the five-yard line and turned it over. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Knights led 31-6. The Knights would eventually score one more time and the final was 38-6. The Chants Coach Wells commented after the game, “We didn’t get off to a very good start in the game and they took advantage of it. They are very good, give them credit. We just can’t make those kinds of mistakes against a great team like that and expect to win. We played extremely hard but just didn’t play well enough. As far as the season, what we were able to accomplish this season is a testament to the resiliency and toughness of these players. They played their hearts out all season. These young men are going to do special things in their life. We are blessed to have them in our school and community. Our seniors were great leaders and the foundation of this team, and they will be missed.”
