District Loss Ends Season

The Chanticleer boys faced Broken Bow in the first round of the C1-10 subdistrict. The Chants showed their nerves early and struggled offensively allowing the Indians to take a 10-2 lead. Coach Gates said “We were fortunate to only be down eight after that first quarter our defense and rebounding keep us in the game.” In the 2nd quarter the Chants would rally and warm up from the field. A Reese Davenport three in the last fifteen seconds of the half would cut the lead to three with the Indians being up 19-16. Both teams started off stronger in the 3rd quarter but the Chants would have 10-0 run to end the 3rd quarter and would take a 32-26 lead at the end of the 3rd. Unfortunately, the Chant offense would go cold for the next five minutes and allow the Indians to take a lead. The last two minutes of the game featured frantic moments. The Chants were able to force two big turnovers and were able to get some opportunities to win the game. The Chants would call a timeout with 15 seconds down 35-37. Hayden Grint would get a shot at the basket that would go in and out and a putback attempt was slapped away allowing the Indians to escape 37-35. Hayden Grint would led the Chants with 12 points. “That's a tough way to go out. We had chances and this time of year that is all you can ask for.” Gates added I feel sorry that this group didn’t get another game but that doesn’t take away what they did this year. I hope that our guys coming back next year can learn from what this group of seniors did for us this year.” Playing in their last games were Stetson Bredthauer, Solomon Campise, Hayden Grint, and Jaden Riley. The Chants finished the season 11-12.
