As part of our Return to School Plan, regular updates will occur to keep our community informed of where we are at with planning. This week the Loup Basin has reported rising higher in the Orange Risk Dial Zone. We are currently in the Yellow Operational Zone in our local school community but are feeling the impact of the rise in community cases. We are still in the Yellow Operational Zone due to having no evidence of school based spread or quarantine cases due to school based exposure. We are able to remain in the Yellow Operational Zone by having low quarantine numbers associated with any positive cases we have had due to masks being used in both buildings and at all home events. To date, we have had NO instances of traceable spread in either building. Simply put, the measures that we are putting in place to keep students and staff healthy are working. The Governor has asked schools to reach out to students, parents, and community members to please do what they can to help schools keep students attending in-person each and every day. New Directive Health Measures went into effect on 11/11/20 that further put in place expectations on schools to limit density of classroom areas, to increase requirements of social distancing, and limit groups of indoor activities. If the health department rises into the Red, schools will be required to submit plans for operations that may require de-densifying the building. We want to do everything possible to keep our students at school each and every day. We are asking our community to help us do this.
Aligning with open and transparent communication, we currently have one staff positive case at OES, two staff positives at OHS, two student positive cases at OES, and one student positive case at OHS. Due to masks being used at school, there were no students or staff identified to quarantine due to the positive cases. Family members and close contact individuals have been directed to quarantine per the Loup Basin guidelines. We continue to see increased numbers of students and staff needing to quarantine due to close contact exposure with a positive case of a family member. In all cases, the positive contact was a family member or friend and the contact occurred outside of school.
We are very concerned about the rising cases in our community, but we continue to be diligent in our efforts to keep the impact of this on our schools minimal. We are planning on full in-person learning everyday and we have not changed our plans on this. We are thrilled that we have had 58 days of student learning and are planning on completing the semester with the scheduled days of in-person student learning. We encourage anyone with questions to contact the District Office, OHS, or OES and ask to speak with an administrator. We will continue to monitor the health of our local community and work with Loup Basin Health Department to communicate our Operational Zones. The Return To School Plan can be found at the Ord Public Schools website www.ordps.org.
