Dear Ord Families Governor Ricketts issued an order Wednesday night requiring Nebraska schools to operate without students in buildings through May 31. With that Directed Health Measure, we now know that we will not be able to physically come back together this school year; Ord Public Schools facilities will remain closed with our remote learning format to continue. We had held out hope we would be reunited with our students this school year, but we have also been preparing for this scenario. Staff will now begin finalizing plans since we now know we will not be able to be together in our classrooms this school year. We will continue our remote learning plans as we have done these past two weeks. Assignments will continue to be provided by teachers to help with the retention of skills. Our emphasis is on staying academically and socially engaged, providing learning opportunities, and reviewing key concepts. We want to continue to focus on learning as opposed to grading. This is not a concern that we need to address at this time. We just want everyone to simply do the best they can. We understand that schedules, supports, and learning styles vary greatly. Stay engaged with us and we will do our best to meet the needs of our students. In continuing to support the needs of our students and families, our plan is to continue to provide breakfast and lunches free of charge to our students until we are no longer able to do this to align with public health department guidance. Updates on menus and plans will be made weekly. We are also here for mental health/emotional support. If you need help for yourself or your child regarding behavior, mental help support, or how you can access help, please call your students' school and speak with either the Principal or the Guidance Counselor. Your information will be kept private and we will do our best to help you. Closing our schools for the rest of the year also impacts extra-curricular events and high profile events. The spring activities season has officially been cancelled by NSAA. We are uncertain as to what other historical events that the school hosts during this time will look like, such as Prom, Graduation, Kindergarten Orientation, etc. but we will be making decisions on those events in the near future. We will be planning a virtual meeting with Senior students and families next week to communicate plans for Seniors. We realize that there are many questions that we are not able to answer yet. Guidance is coming to schools from the Governor and the Education Commissioner, along with Federal Guidelines, that will impact many of the decisions that we are trying to make. This is a common theme for all schools to work through these new changes and plan for additional developments as our community, country and world continue to respond to this pandemic. We will continue to iron out details as we work through this and will have follow up communication as plans develop. We do not want to overwhelm you with communication, and our goal is to share as much as possible with you to keep everyone on the same page. Thank you for your support, engagement, and patience. As we all navigate this uncertain journey, please give grace, support others, and take time to take care of yourself and your family. We are all in this together. Just keep doing your best. We appreciate all that you’re doing. Better days are ahead and we look forward to being together again. Stay strong Chant Nation! Sincerely, Dr. Heather Nebesniak

Based on the recommendations from the Loup Basin, Two Rivers and Central District Health Departments and the Nebraska Commissioner of Education, Ord Public Schools will extend their facility closure date to students through May 1, 2020 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our school district will continue to provide remote educational learning opportunities for our students according to our school plan. A decision of this magnitude would not be made if we didn't feel that it was necessary to help ensure the general welfare and safety of our communities. We will communicate on April 16th with our public health departments to review current health information that is available at that time.
